Explanation of the Adverbial Phrase and its Types for First Preparatory Grade (New Curriculum)

(Non-Single Adverbial Phrase) - Grammar for First Preparatory Grade (New Curriculum)
The adverbial phrase is:
1- A noun.
2- Indefinite.
3- Accusative.
4- It describes the state of its subject.

The subject of the adverbial phrase is always definite, and the adverbial phrase is a non-permanent attribute.

The adverbial phrase is divided into:

1- Single Adverbial

2- Sentence
3- Phrase
1- Single Adverbial Phrase:
It is neither a sentence nor a phrase, and it must be indefinite and accusative, and it must agree with its subject in:
(1) Gender: masculine or feminine.

(2) Number: singular, dual, or plural.

Examples: - The pilgrims traveled happily.

The believer prayed humbly.

The believer supplicated to his Lord earnestly.

Face the difficulties with strength.

God Almighty said: “Indeed, We have sent you as a witness.”

The Muslim shook hands with his friend lovingly.

2- The Adverbial Sentence:

This is either a nominal or verbal sentence. The subject of the adverbial must be definite, and it must contain a link connecting it to the subject. This link can be:
(a) A pronoun.

(b) The conjunction "and" (و).

(c) The conjunction "and" (و) and a pronoun.

Examples:
I memorized the Quran when I was young.

The soldiers returned carrying weapons.

“And they came to their father in the evening, weeping.”

The man went out seeking his livelihood, relying on God.

“They said, ‘If a wolf eats him while we are a group…’”

We will triumph over the enemy when we are united.

I admire the craftsman for his skillful work.

I passed by the flowing river.

Your brother was absent, but all your friends were present.

We returned from work, and the streets were crowded.

3- The Adverbial Phrase:
This is either an adverbial phrase or a prepositional phrase. The subject of the adverbial phrase must be definite. Examples:
I saw the teacher among his students.

I saw the preacher on the pulpit.

I saw the imam between the pulpit and the mihrab.

I saw the birds in the garden.

I admired the roses in the middle of the orchard.

The bird was in pain in its cage.

Very Important Notes:
1- It is possible for multiple adverbials to appear in a single sentence:
For example: I read the story with enjoyment; I admire its imagination.

2- The following words are adverbials:
a- (Firstly, secondly, thirdly, etc., materially, literarily, politically, and similar words. All, collectively, always, instead, in place of, especially, generally, entirely, intentionally, unintentionally, inadvertently, equally, together, orally).

B. The word "alone" (وحد) when added to a pronoun functions as an adverbial phrase (حال), as in: "Study alone" (ذاكر وحدك), "Study alone" (ذاكر واحده), "Study alone" (ذاكرا وحدكم)...

C. The word "how" (كيف) when followed by a verb functions as an adverbial phrase (حال), as in: "How do you hear the Quran?"
3. An adverbial phrase can be transformed from a single word to a phrase or clause, and vice versa:
For example:

The student came happily: The student came while he was happy - The student came, pleased by his effort - The student came in happiness.

4. An adverbial phrase may precede its subject (e.g., "The successful one came happily"), or the verb (e.g., "Happily, the successful one came").

5. The subject of the adverbial phrase:
A. It may be the subject (فاعل):
For example: "The student sat smiling."

B. It may be the object (مفعول به):
For example: "I smelled the pleasant scent."

C. It may be the subject of a passive verb (نائب الفاعل):
For example: "The Messenger was sent as a guide."

6. The difference between an adjective and an adverbial phrase:
An adverbial phrase is indefinite, while its subject is definite:
The boy came energetically. The adjective agrees with its noun in definiteness or indefiniteness:

Indefinite – Indefinite (adjective).

Definite – Definite (adjective).

The active boy came.
