Some chord names in this lesson may look intimidating, but they are often easier to play than classic “cowboy” chords.
If you’re still developing chord vocabulary, you can usually simplify without breaking the harmony:
• Amaj7, Aadd9, Asus2, A7, Amaj13 → just play A (major)
• Em6, Em7, Em9, Em11 → just play Em
→ As long as you keep the chord major or minor, the song will still work musically.
⚠️ EXCEPTIONS: → diminished (b5) and augmented (#5) chords
These intentionally alter the 5th, so replacing them with a basic open chord can clash.
The GOOD NEWS? → These shapes are often easier than an F barre — and once you learn one voicing, it works in all 12 keys.
