Overview and demonstration of the Amaryllo iCamPRO FHD Home Security Robot.
It’s tempting to call the iCamPRO a home security camera. In a lot of ways it is a camera but this little guy is actually a magic 8 ball-shaped home security robot.
In a technology world over populated by sensors and cameras, it’s easy to understand why iCamPRO is different. Already, the team is focused on ways to make the robot smarter which was reflected in my test unit’s ability to talk. At CES I saw the iCamPRO track objects. Now, just a few months later, the device is smarter. Currently it can provide voice prompts throughout the setup process but Amaryllo is working on ways to make communication more interactive between robot and owner. The device’s integrated audio and motion sensors are backed by an Intelligent Tracking System. In fact, the iCamPRO is the first consumer camera that offers motion tracking. The integrated system senses a “presence” and turns to automatically follow the motion.
I know I shouldn’t call the iCamPro a camera but it’s just so much easier and if I were to call it a camera, I would say it’s like two cameras in one as it can track multiple people. Let’s say that there are two intruders. One intruder is in front of the device and the other is behind. The iCamPRO will track the first intruder that it detected but it will then turn to track the second person. In many ways the iCamPRO does a more efficient job of watching over a large area than two static IP cameras.
During my in-home testing experience we were interested in how iCamPRO prioritized one intruder over another. The robot seems to prioritize distance and motion with motion being its main priority. For example, if I’m standing 10 feet from the device and another person is positioned 5 feet from the device, it will prioritize the other person. However, if I walk (am in motion) at the same distance from the camera, it will prioritize me.
