The Theory of Constraints (TOC) is a management philosophy developed by Dr. Eliyahu M. Goldratt, introduced in his book “The Goal.” It focuses on identifying and managing the most critical limiting factor (constraint) that stands in the way of achieving a goal—usually maximizing throughput or performance.
TOC is based on the idea that every system has at least one constraint that limits its overall output. By systematically improving that constraint, organizations can achieve significant gains in productivity, efficiency, and profitability.
