MAHO BEACH, St. Maarten / Plane Spotting
The famous Maho Beach is located on the Dutch side of the Caribbean island of St. Maarten. It is often called "airport beach" since it is adjacent to the Princess Juliana International Airport where many tourists come to plane spotting and watch planes landing very low above the beach. Visiting Maho beach during daytime, you see planes landing every 5-10 minutes. Particularly popular are the intercontinental flights of KLM and Air France that are usually in the afternoon. Check the flight schedule at Princess Juliana Airport for exact days and times.
Maho Beach offers soft sand and beautiful turquoise water but it tends to get very overcrowded especially in the afternoons when many planes are expected to arrive.
