This third installment in my Esoteric OCD Symptoms playlist discusses the compulsory experience of what I call "reliving," similar to the derealization that occurs when individuals suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder re-experience traumatic events, but unlike that phenomenon, reliving is non-intrusive, not entirely involuntary and paradoxically not at all unwelcome, inasmuch as these experiences afford an opportunity for catharsis; the individual is not re-traumatized in the reliving of it (all affective evidence to the contrary...).

Inasmuch as anxiety is insatiable, however, no matter how many times persons with OCD give themselves over to this feat of emotional time-travel, revisiting a past injury with the strength and determination of an adult taking the moral high ground* does not necessarily result in a permanent "letting go" of even those traumatic events for which they have completely forgiven others. This is a curious dichotomy, but under the rubric of OCD, somehow not contradictory; a person is simultaneously upset, yet not upset in the remembering, in the retelling.

*indignation is another prominent feature, also very much unlike the nightmares and flashbacks comprised by the re-experiencing category of PTSD symptomatology
