The Indonesian Government has been contemplating the idea of implementing a carbon tax for emissions that are not offset by carbon credits. However, they have decided to delay its implementation until the right "economic situation" arises. The recent enactment of New Reg could be seen as a step towards achieving this ideal economic condition. While New Reg provides a framework for establishing a carbon exchange, we believe that more specific regulations are necessary to fully utilize and monetize carbon units through this exchange.
