NO FUN: Behringer System 100 Module 172 Phase Shifter Delay LFO
This Module Is Cheap And Acting Even Cheaper :-(
What you see here is a sequence generated by WM ELOQUENCER
and CWEJMAN SM-1 through the PHASE SHIFTING section of
BEHRINGER 172. The module itself sounds quite well but the built
in LFO shows a strange behaviour. At its slowest rate it is emitting
appoximately +- 1,7 V which is to be considered the minimum to
tickle out some perceivable modulation of the phaser but tweaked
to its maximum speed the voltage put out has reduced to almost
3% of the original voltage
rendering an imperceptable modulation.
Compared to an ordinary DOEPFER LFO which
puts out constant 1.7 V
at full amplitude no matter in what frequency it is oscillating.
The max. output volumes may vary in Euro Modules but they are
not reverse proportionally tied to their output voltage.
What I did now. I gave this module to service in order to have it fixed. But service returned exactly like this, untouched, saying that
all modules of the batch they had in the shop
were behaving like this!
Also the original ROLAND module decreases the CV as the LFO frequency increaeses. No one could tell me however how strong the LFO FX in the original module are since it is so rare that no one hardly heard it. But since ROLAND have been issuing innumerous flangers, phasers and chorusses with interl LFO that all have a well perceptable influence on the FX why should this module be the only exception?
In this BEHRINGER 172 however the LFO is uninvolved due to it low voltage output. In this respect, the frequency related drop may correspond to the original, but the performance as a whole is absolutely meaningless, because hardly any modulation is audible. And a component that has no effect, even in a budget product is pure waste and therefore belongs eliminated - or else put into function!
