Mega project to prevent flooding in RS
What is the government considering to prevent flooding in Rio Grande do Sul? The federal government is considering building a canal between Lagoa dos Patos and the Atlantic Ocean to drain rainwater and prevent further flooding in the state. The canal will be approximately 20 km long. In the capital, Porto Alegre, the 69-kilometer dikes that surround the capital will be reinforced. The height of the Mauá wall will also be increased, and the pump houses that pump water back into the river will be reinforced.
