Strong winds during rescues are both a gift and a challenge. When the wind blows from the direction of the seals to us, the animals can't detect our scent, and we go unnoticed for a whole. But the wind also makes it difficult to run fast, especially when we carry our big nets. Like so many other marine animals, this seal needed to be rescued from packing straps. Packing straps don't stretch, so as the seal grows, the strap will cut into its skin and cause pain, injury, and eventually starvation, infection, or suffocation. Luckily, we rescued this seal before any permanent damage could happen.
