Looped animation, final assignment for Contemporary Issues.
In this work I touch on concepts of isolation due to technology, and what our future may look like. This work also centers in on a new form of technology we see becoming increasingly popular today, the oculus; a headset that allows the user to experience a virtual reality. I’ve always found that one of the greatest uses of art is to predict a possible future. In this case I try to predict a possible darker future where society has become obsessed with virtual realities.
Although I have displayed a large group of people on a busy train, each person is isolated due to the technology they wear. The wearer is enveloped in their own world. At the center is the main character, who has his eyes closed. This is a literal representation of what it is like the become obsessed with virtual realities. It is like closing your eyes to the real world. I decided to display this idea in the form of an animation. I really wanted to experiment with animation for this assignment as the main focus of my theme was technology.
