The IDSL was created and developed by Phil Harris, 5th Dan, Head Instructor of Heijoshin Karate. The idea for forming the IDSL was adopted from the Inter-Dojo JKA League, put on by Sensei Ray Tio of World Class Karate. Phil is a member of the International Karate Daigaku (IKD) and decided that for the betterment of all competitors, the IDSL would become an open league tournament, allowing for any Shotokan dojo in Manitoba to participate, regardless of affiliation.
