For the twelfth episode, we go to the period following the 1955 Modernisation Plan, where a trio of heavyweights would emerge in the form of the Class 44, 45 and 46, express diesel locomotives that would be the backbone of many different routes across the UK network for nearly 30 years, plying their trade on top line expresses, vital Trans-Pennine workings and even freight operations.
