Creating a bibliography (also called a list of sources) in your Word document (works in Word 2013, 2016, 2019, 2021, or Microsoft 365) is quite simple. First, you need to manage your sources. This allows you to store all the sources you use in your work in a small database. When adding sources, make sure that the most important information is included, such as author, year, title, publisher (for books), and journal name, volume, and issue (for magazine articles).
You can copy all the works in your master list into the current list—these will then appear in the final bibliography. You can also remove sources by deleting them from your current list.
Once the sources are in the bibliography, you can use the "Insert Citation" function to insert sources directly into the text or a footnote. You can keep them as updatable references or convert them to text and add the abbreviation "Cf." and the corresponding page number.
Finally, you can now insert the bibliography. All sources currently listed in the "Manage Sources" dialog box will then appear in the bibliography, which you can insert anywhere. However, the bibliography almost always appears directly after the last page of text, typically the conclusion.
You can also select from various predefined citation styles or bibliography styles in Word, such as APA or Chicago.
The bibliography can also be updated and formatted according to your needs.
