this video we provide, ncert solutions of question 4 of exercise:-13.2 ,class 10, chapter 13 ,surface area and volume.

Question 4 :-
A pen stand made of wood is in the shape of a cuboid with four conical depressions to hold pens. The dimensions of the cuboid are 15 cm by 10 cm by 3.5 cm. The radius of each of the depressions is 0.5 cm and the depth is 1.4 cm. Find the volume of wood in the entire stand (see Fig. 13.16)

Solving process
Given :-
Dimensions of cuboid , L = 15 cm ; B = 10cm ; h = 3.5 cm
Radius of conical depressions = 0.5 cm
Depth (height) of conical depressions = 1.4 cm

As we know that :-
Volume of cuboid = L × B × H
volume of cone = 1/3πr²h

Volume Of entire stand = vol. of Cuboid – vol. of 4 cone
= L×B×H – 4 (1/3πr²h)
= 15×10×3.5 – 4×(1/3×22/7×0.5×0.5×1.4)
= 525 – 4 × (1/3 × 22 × 0.25 × 0.2)
= 525 – 4 × (1/3 × 5.5 × 0.2)
= 525 – 4 × (1/3 × 1.1)
= 525 – 4 × 0.36
= 525 – 1.44
= 523.56 cm³
Hence , volume of entire Wood stand = 523.56 cm³.
