Sickies Making Films Perks
Sickies Making Films explores the history of film by focusing on the nation’s longest surviving censor board, the Maryland State Board of Censors (1916-1981). As movies first began to appear calls for censorship accompanied them. In seven states and dozens of cities, censors banned and altered movies citing reasons such as sex, violence, politics, and race issues.
We came together to make Sickies Making Films because of our deep commitment to history, cinema, storytelling, and laughter. We’re confident in our ability to deliver a documentary that will inform and tickle you, and enrich the historical record of movies and filmmaking.
Joe Tropea (director, producer, writer) co-directed Hit & Stay and works at a state cultural institution where he writes, edits, makes videos, curates photo exhibits, and wears a number of other hats.
Skizz Cyzyk (cinematographer, producer) has made many features, shorts, and music videos: “David Fair Is The King,” “Alfred Jarry and Pataphysics,” Hit & Stay, Freaks In Love, videos for the Young Fresh Fellows and Beach House, and many more.
Robert A. Emmons Jr. (editor, producer, writer) teaches at Rutgers Camden and his directorial credits include: Diagram For Delinquents, DeLuxe: The Tale of the Blue Comet, “Yardsale!,” and Goodwill: The Flight of Emilio Carranza.
Jeff Krulik (archival research, producer) has been making documentaries since 1986 and knows archives like the back of his hand. He has scoured the National Archives and other sources for this project.
