The "Chang'e Holding the Osmanthus Branch" is a colorful Chinese painting created by Tang Yin, a famous painter, calligrapher, and poet from the Ming Dynasty. It is currently housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the United States. We hope that this painting will one day return home. The author of the painting, Tang Yin, was one of the most famous painters, calligraphers, and poets of the Ming Dynasty. In painting, he was known as one of the "Four Masters of Wu Men" (or the Four Masters of the Ming Dynasty) along with Shen Zhou, Wen Zhengming, and Qiu Ying. The figure in the painting is Chang'e, a character from ancient Chinese mythology, the goddess of the moon palace. There are legends such as Chang'e's flight to the moon in China, which are often associated with one of the four traditional Chinese festivals, the Mid-Autumn Festival. In the Tang Dynasty, the Mid-Autumn Festival became an official national holiday, and stories such as Chang'e's flight to the moon were incorporated into it, making it full of romanticism.
