Ancestral property refers to property inherited up to four generations of male lineage, which cannot be sold or transferred without the consent of all legal heirs. On the other hand, self-acquired property is one that parents acquire through their own efforts or resources. Upon the death of the parents, self-acquired property is distributed among legal heirs, such as children and surviving spouse, according to the parent's will or in the absence of a will, as per succession laws. Ancestral property is automatically divided equally among legal heirs, including both sons and daughters, under Hindu law.
