On February 09, 2021, keyboardist and composer Chick Corea passed away. With him, the jazz world lost one of the greats. Born in Massachusetts, Corea began his career in the 1960s. He achieved great attention when he contributed to the groundbreaking Miles Davis album "Bitches Brew". In the 1970s, Corea experienced great commercial success with his fusion band "Return To Forever." Again and again Corea switched between acoustic and electric lineups, performing almost exclusively his own compositions - many of which have since become standards. In honor of this great musician, the WDR Big Band, under the direction of Michael Abene, has conceived a program of Corea's works that primarily reflects the keyboardist's acoustic side.
