Incredibly, by the time Arnold betrayed America in September 1780, that corridor was still closed to the British. His offer to them was West Point, a critical defensive position on the Hudson River.
Although 300 miles North of the Battle for New York, which occurred during this time on and around Manhattan, Valcour Island was still a strategic part of the war in 1776.
