Variations on a well-known melody "Dr. Faust's Jux" or "Papa Joe's", a piece for the pure beginner on the piano. It is meant to be played with the fist, in German "Faust", which is also the title of Goethe's play "Faust 1". So these are variations, each one for a specific and elementary scene of the play. At the very first beginning, you hear the Theme with it's 3 Couplets and afterwards the variations begin. Here is the variation's name list, of course in German, because of Goethe's play:
