The 2021 Yamaha R7 is powered by a 689cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine that produces 73.4PS at 8,750rpm and 67Nm at 6,500rpm, which is the same as the MT-07. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox, paired with slip-and-assist clutch. You can opt for a upshift-only quickshifter as an additional fitment from Yamaha.
Unlike the R6 that used a twin-spar aluminum frame, the 2021 Yamaha R7 uses a chassis borrowed from the MT-07. However, the bike gets a completely different suspension and braking setup. The R7 comes with fully-adjustable 41mm KYB USD forks and a monoshock to handle suspension duties. Braking is taken care of by twin 298mm disc up front and a 245 mm disc at the rear. Unlike the MT-07 that gets axial calipers, the YZF-R7 comes with radial units from Brembo. Yamaha has equipped the bike only with dual-channel ABS.
The styling of the 2021 Yamaha YZF-R7 has been derived from the YZF-R6, albeit with some changes. From the sculpted fuel tank and the sleek rear end is inspired by the inline-four track monster. Though the front is largely the same unit from the R6, it gets a wider and bigger windscreen, and a single LED projector in the middle of the air intake vent.
The 2021 Yamaha YZF-R7 goes up against the likes of the Aprilia RS 660, Honda CBR650R and the Kawasaki Ninja 650.
