I have been using Orchestrator since 2007, so I’m thoroughly confident that I can write workflows for deploying VMs.
So why this challenge?
One of the main reasons is because one of the things I’ve heard repeatedly over the years is when someone wants to learn Orchestrator, but they obviously cannot use their work environment to learn in… You know, their mission critical, enterprise class, production environment. I wanted to provide a quick and easy way to get into an Orchestrator environment. We do that in the very first video. It’s my hope that the combination of pointing to a quick to deploy lab environment with teaching some basic Orchestrator skills will lower the barrier to entry for people interested in Orchestrator.
Another reason is because even though writing workflows to create VMs is nothing new to me, stepping through the process of creating one on camera gives me the opportunity to think aloud and show you the thought process I go through as I create workflows. Plus I’m bound to make an error somewhere along the way or run into some unexpected glitch, and that means that I can show you some things about debugging workflows.
The original impetus for creating these videos was this video: • How to make a killer video (That blows up ... . I’ve never created a “challenge” video. I think that video exaggerates a tad bit when it says that challenge videos always go viral, but creating a challenge video sounded fun.
