A few months ago, I stopped drinking plain water. Here's why:
1️⃣ I got a really high quality water filter that filters literally everything out of my water. It filters out the bad: dirt, fluoride, prescription meds, etc. but it also filters out the good: minerals/electrolytes
In order for water to be maximal hydrating it has to contain electrolytes because electrolytes are the keys to unlock the gateways to bring water into the cells. So I add minerals and electrolytes to my water to enhance hydration
2️⃣ Plain water is sooooo boring to me so even if it’s there, I never drink it. So I like to add a little bit of flavor just to make the behavioral side of it easier for me
3️⃣ There are some vitamins in minerals I’m trying to increase my intake of to help my skin health. And it’s just a lot easier to add them to my water daily.
Since making this shift, I genuinely feel so much more hydrated. I am drinking more fluids overall, and when I am thirsty, these “enhanced waters” immediately quench my thirst unlike what I was trying to drink before that just left me feeling just as thirsty after drinking.
If you:
➡️ drink a lot of water but still I always feel kind of thirsty
➡️ feel lightheaded or fatigued during your workouts, particularly when it’s hotter outside and you’re sweating more
➡️ Mostly cook your own food (most restaurant food is very high in sodium, but if you cook from home it’s unlikely you’re getting enough total sodium to meet your electrolyte requirement, particularly if you’re drinking a lot of water)
Then you might benefit from enhancing your own water.
And don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be as fancy as this. y’all know me, I love being extra with my food. But a couple of pictures of Himalayan salt or Celtic sea salt in your water whenever you drink could be all that you need!
