We Need To Talk About Skill Based Matchmaking
Skill based matchmaking (SBMM) is the new trend in attempting to keep lobbies fair and balanced. The average gamer doesn't want to get destroyed, so playing against similarly skilled players sounds like a good solution. The reality is that this simply turns casual playlists into ranked-lite playlists and doesn't actually create a better playing experience in the long-term. Other things like punishments for leaving the game have combined with SBMM and completely ruined all the casual playlists in Rocket League. It's about time we acknowledge how badly this system works and put pressure on Psyonix to make some changes so that the casual player base can actually enjoy the game again.
