"Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion" are the lyrics to the song. The song sounds good! Fingers are popping, hands are clapping, and feet are tapping. It's trending. Institutions want to be morally, ethically, and politically correct, but still, we see that the DEI data does not reflect the ongoing efforts of the trainings and investment of time regarding this important topic.
This poetic expression speaks to the many individuals who are in spaces of influence and who can impact change. We often hear, "they do not meet the qualifications for the job." But who did--especially when they first started out? Someone had to have the confidence to make the investment in supporting and mentoring the individuals who sit in the c-suite.
Perhaps we can't give a job or promotional opportunity, but we certainly can be impactful in giving individuals a voice at least to speak about their contributions to their work. Are you willing to support, mentor, and invest time into giving someone a "seat at the table?" It's a worthy investment that pays great dividends. Thank you for sharing your privilege.
