Sanitarium is hands down one of my absolute favorite games from my childhood. This is my full, no-commentary walkthrough of this 1998 masterpiece. I’m playing through the entire game from start to finish, showing every bizarre, twisted chapter without interruptions, edits, or talking. PRODUCTION NOTES
Because this game means so much to me, I thought it was only right to give it the ultimate modern treatment. I wanted to upload it with much better colors and make it far more visually appealing than the original raw footage. I spent hours in DaVinci Resolve Studio 20 mastering and upscaling this classic to a crisp 4K at 60fps. I completely overhauled the color grading.. fixing the washed-out contrast during gameplay to make the environments pop, while carefully preserving the creepy, deep shadows of the original cinematic FMVs. I also applied surgical noise reduction and debanding to clean up decades-old compression artifacts. I treat these retro gems with the love and precision they deserve so we can all experience them in the best possible quality today.
Sanitarium was developed by DreamForge Intertainment and originally published by ASC Games in 1998. It is a psychological horror point-and-click adventure that challenges your perception of reality and sanity.
You play as Max, a man who awakens in a crumbling sanitarium with his head bandaged and no memory of who he is. From this disturbing start, the game pulls you through a series of surreal, nightmarish chapters: an abandoned town of deformed children, a hive of insect-worshippers, a twisted circus, eerie graveyards, and more. Each chapter is a descent into the fractured psyche of the protagonist, blurring the line between reality and madness.
In 2015, DotEmu brought Sanitarium to iOS and Android devices. More recently, the game has been re-released on PC storefronts, with DotEmu credited as the developer and Ziggurat as the publisher. These re-releases made the cult classic accessible for a new generation of players.
