Flying Around a Large, Capsized, Cut Open Cargo Ship, St. Simons, GA, 4K 60fps
Here we fly over St. Simons Sound, between St. Simons and Jekyll Island in coastal Georgia, to take another close look at the formerly 654 foot long, 40,000 ton capsized car freighter Golden Ray, which capsized here in September, 2019 with 4,200 new cars on board. In this flight, you can see that 4 of the seven sections have been cut away and removed, revealing three sections with two cuts remaining. A side view of the cut open ship reveals its contents.

The investigating team for this accident determined that the root cause was failure to use water ballast in their ballast tanks combined with an unbalanced condition resulting from several vehicle loading and unloading operations before this incident. I suspect they weren't using ballast in order to be lighter overall and save on fuel.
