If you are driving a car, you might get 2 car keys from the car seller. So you might leave one key in your home as spare, and carry one key with you all the time. So every morning, before you step out of your home, you must remember carry your car key.
Nowadays there are these types:
1: Non-Remote Cars:
Car has 2 metal keys 🔑, usually those lories or old age cars. You need slot key in the door key hole then rotate key to unlock the door, then pull out key then open the door manually, then slot key in the key hole in the car then rotate to start the engine. Some keys in this type has a chip.
2: Non-Keyless Cars:
Car has 2 metal blade keys 🔑 and 2 remote (2-3 buttons), there are separate type, blade type and flip type. You need press the unlock button on remote to unlock the car when you approach the car, then you can pull the door open, then slot the metal key in the key hole then rotate to start the engine. You need rotate the key to shut off the engine, then pull out the key from key hole, the open doors the leave the car, then close doors, then press the lock button on the remote to lock the car. Then you can leave.
3: Keyless 0.5: Keyless Start only cars:
Car has 2 remote (transponder), metal blade keys usually hidden in the remote.
Car owner need press the unlock button to unlock the car doors, then can pull the door open then step in the car, then can press start button in the car to start the engine. Once car parked, driver press the stop (same as start button) button to stop engine, then can step out of the car then close the door then press the lock button on the remote to lock the car.
Pains: driver must find the key then press button on it to lock unlock the car. For lady driver remote usually in their bag, so it is headache to take out the key to do this. By doing so, it increases the chances of key lost.
4: Keyless 1.0: Keyless Entry and Keyless Start.
Car has two remote, drive only need keep one in their pocket or bags, he/she can unlock the door by slot his/her fingers in the door handle or for some models: press a small button on the door handle. Then driver door can be pulled open and driver can press start/stop button in the car to run / shutdown engine. Once door closed, driver need touch the door handle or press a button on the door handle to lock the car then safe. Usually car with keyless entry should have keyless start.
Pains: sometime need slot hands multiple times to unlocked the door. Sometime need touch the door handle multiple times to lock the door. It is a pain especially in some urgent situations: like raining heavily, or urgently go toilet.
5: Keyless 2.0
Driver still need carry one remote, but once he approaching 1-2 m away from the car, the car will be unlocked, so you can pull the door open. Once car parked, driver can leave the car after doors are close, without touch anything, once the distance of the remote and car greater than 2-3 meters the car will be locked automatically. Some car models like Honda, VW (new model), BMW new models, Mercedes new models has this type.
Pains: driver still need carry one remote with him.
6: Keyless 2.1
In some car models: Tesla, BMW, etc. We don’t need carry any car remote, just get a nfc card like hotel room card. Or copy that nfc card into the phone. Or copy to the Apple Watch or even on a ring.
Pain: still need carry one card and very easy to get it lost and difficult to carry it especially in hot weather country. The biggest pain is you still need take out this card / phone / watch to touch the door handle or some area of the NFC sensor(worse than Keyless 1.0 or 1.0). Once you leaving the car, you must remember to take the card, and need touch door handle to lock the car after door closed. Same pain as Keyless 1.0
7: Keyless 3.0
We use phone as key, but touchless.
Nowadays, people usually carry one smart phone then can do everything. A smart phone phone is the only thing people need carry, so we integrate the key into phone / phone app.
And realise: Approaching to unlock and leaving to lock, totally true keyless like the video shows.
