In this video, I forge a xiphos, Which is a greek sword of the 4th century BCE.
The leaf-shaped blade is about 24" long and is forged from 5160 spring steel. After forging to shape, it is rough ground, then heat-treated with a fairly springy temper. The blade is then ground to a 220 grit finish. The handle pieces are made from Jocabata (check spelling) wood. They are epoxied and pinned into place with a bronze plate on either end. The tang of the sword is peened over to lock everything securely in place
