This is the most affordable and eco-friendly NATURAL washing detergent recipe there is. I've been using this for a couple of months now and I'm absolutely in love.
The ivy is free and grows abundantly in our backyard, and I buy washing soda online in bulk to save money.
Natural Ivy Laundry Detergent Recipe & Instructions:
1-2 handfuls of English Ivy leaves, cut into shreds (about 30-60 grams)
3 tablespoons of Washing Soda (Sodium carbonate)
optional 2-3 tablespoons of Nancy's fabric softener, or white vinegar + 5 drops of essential oil (I used orange)
1. Wash and cut the ivy leaves using a pair of scissors
2. Put the cut ivy leaves in a fine mesh washing bag
3. Put the mesh bag in the washing machine with your clothes
4. Pour 3 tablespoons of washing soda (sodium carbonate) in the washing detergent compartment of your washing machine
5. Optional, put 2-3 tablespoons home made fabric softener or white vinegar + essential oil in the fabric softener compartment of your mashing machine
6. For a regular wash, wash on the shortest or lowest energy using setting on cold for a eco friendly option!
Where to buy:
Washing soda - google Sodium carbonate in your location and buy the cheapest bulk bag you can afford
Essential oil - I like this Orange Essential Oil https://iherb.co/uQWRSk7g (orange essential oil has been proven to uplift our mood!)
I learnt all of this from the one and only - Nancy Birthwhistle! The original ivy washing detergent recipe and natural fabric softener is from Nancy Birthwhistle's book Clean & Green, you can find her Instagram (with so many amazing natural cleaning recipes) here: / nancy.birtwhistle
