Monster Adventure Chaos Review Rough Draft 2
My rating for this game 2/5 maybe a three on a good day. Monster Fantasy appears to be a more complete version of this game and I wish I knew about it sooner if I really wanted to play this type of game. Most of this game can be played offline.
Something positive about this game
It's a free to play monster catching game similar to Pokemon but for mobile phones. You can catch, battle, and train many cute monsters on the go! If you want to battle with your friends then you can head to a monster center in the nearest town to battle over LAN (Local area network) though have not tried this yet and I get the error "LAN service is temporarily unavailable" when I use the computer.
Problems I had with the game (Version 1.2.0)
1. Cloud Saving is locked behind a pay wall and I am not willing to invest my money into this game. A lot of other games (Duel links, Inotia 3, PUBG, Pokemon Revolution, etc.) already save to the cloud for free.
2. It was painful to read through the translated text of this game. I was expecting some world building text from the npcs and was disappointed. I like thinking about how the Monster Adventure Chaos world works so I ask questions such as what are monsters, where do they come from, why are they here, why do we pit them in fights to the death, what's so special about this town or person, how are monster balls made, etc. As of version 1.2.0 of the game most npcs just have nonsensical small talk which made me avoid the exploration of towns and completing sidequests.
3. The map isn't very helpful because you have to visit the town or route you want to travel to before the location appears on the map.
4. The monster flavor text seen in the monster index could be improved and the locations for the monsters needs to be updated.
5. There are odd or inappropriate names on npcs. Why do i need to know if the npc is named lolita or metrosexual? Why do npcs have names if they are not important in the story and may not even battle?
6. In battle your turn can be COMPLETELY IGNORED with no explanation whatsoever.
7. Many things are left unfinished, was this an early beta version of a game called Monster Fantasy?
8. The treasure chest found throughout the world are generally not worth the effort of of seeking them out. After I completed all the achievement awards for opening chest I tend to ignore the rest because of how little rewards they granted and how annoying the monster encounters would be. "Oh you went out of your way to explore this dangerous patch of grass? Good, here is one (1) low grade monster ball that would break the instant you try to catch anything."
9. There is a massive level spike in Viz Cave that could end a player's run. In my first playthrough of the game I tried raising a balanced team and as a result our levels were around 46-50 but this was not enough to handle the powerful npcs and Carter boss Snake whose monster's levels ranged from 55-60. This level spike would continue until Beak City. Unless you planned ahead of time or did intense grinding the player would have difficulty playing in the mid to late game. In my second playthrough I sort of fixed this problem by buying an EXP MCHN and Study MCHN early but I was still slightly underleveled by the time I reached Snake.
