"The Botanical Garden of the University of Potsdam was established in 1950 as part of the then-existing Pedagogical College on the grounds of the former terraced gardens of Sanssouci Palace. It is home to almost 9,000 plant species. The display areas cover approximately 5 hectares, in addition to research and propagation areas and operational grounds totaling about 3.5 hectares. The Botanical Garden is dedicated to conveying the scope and importance of the biological diversity of the plant world. This includes the diversity of species and subspecies, genera and families, genetic diversity including cultivated varieties, the diversity of plant forms with their life forms and specific adaptations, the diversity of reproductive and dispersal methods, the habitats they inhabit, and much more."
