This was my design project, in grade 10. It took about two months to plan, film and edit. Hope you enjoy it!

In this video I try to raise a awareness of the threat of nuclear war and how, using diplomatic negotiation, we can prevent it.

Dialogue:

In mid 2017, the world went into a frenzy over the threat of nuclear war between North korea and the US. Today with the tension between the countries higher than it’s ever been, things are not looking good for the future of our planet. But there is a way to resolve this threat, and the key lies in learning from our past.

It is october 1962, and the cold war is at its peak. It has been discovered that the soviet union has been importing nuclear missiles into Cuba and so the US has formed a naval blockade around the country in order to intercept these shipments. Cuba considered this an act of war and threatened the US, with an attack... This is the cuban missile crisis and it is perhaps the closest we have ever come to nuclear war. So how was it prevented?

At first the US demanded the removal of the missiles but the Soviet Union refused, insisting that it was solely for the purpose of defense. Then when tensions were at their highest the leader of the soviet union, Khrushchev sends an anouncement.

[Old recording from after the cuban missile crisis ended]

And so on on October 28th 1962, the US publicly announced that they would not attack cuba; war, was avoided.

No country wants Nuclear war, as that would be suicide, and so, no matter how high the tensions there is always a way to avoid military conflict with diplomatic negotiation. Although by now, i’m sure you agree, but the question determining the outcome of the human race, is do they agree?
