This device provides circumferential compression to the pelvis in patients with suspected pelvic fractures. This can reduce blood loss and pain in our patients.

Pelvic ring injury is associated with a significant risk of mortality (28–50%) and requires urgent treatment.

Clinical evidence indicates that pelvic stabilization devices such as the Arrow® T-POD™ device can improve pelvic fracture outcomes. 1 When seconds count, immediate application of a properly applied pelvic binder in hemodynamically unstable patients can be lifesaving.

Pelvic fractures are among the most serious injuries to the human skeletal system.

They occur primarily in two distinct age groups. The younger group consists primarily of men between 20 and 40 years of age, with motor vehicle accidents being the predominant mechanism of this injury. The second group primarily affects women around 80 years of age, due to low-impact trauma, such as falls from a low height or level.

Mechanical instability of the pelvic ring, as well as low tissue pressure within the pelvis, lead to a simultaneous increase in intrapelvic volume and a decrease in intrapelvic pressure. Consequently, the retroperitoneum can contain large amounts of blood before a tamponade effect develops.

We now know that active pelvic hemorrhage occurs in 59% of patients with mechanically unstable pelvic fractures.

Modern trauma guidelines and resuscitation protocols suggest that pelvic stabilizers should be used for hemorrhage control in the prehospital management of patients with mechanical instability of the pelvic ring and hemodynamic instability, or if intrapelvic bleeding is suspected.

The application of a pelvic stabilizer induces increased circumferential pressure in the pelvis, stabilizing the pelvic ring. This reduces fracture fragments that cause vascular and soft tissue injuries, decreases intrapelvic volume, and increases intrapelvic pressure.
