MacBook Air 15" M3 | Am I losing my MIND? You decide
The latest rumours have shown what’s assumed to be the 15.5” MacBook Air with the same screen resolution as the 14” MacBook Pro running an M2 chip appearing in developers logs… so have I been wrong about M3 all this time? Is it NOT coming at WWDC? Not so fast…
So what’s Mark Gurman predicting for WWDC? From the powered on newsletter, he says…

BUT then he caveats:
“The models coming in June probably won’t boast major new M3 chips. Instead, they’ll run something in line with the current M2 processors.”
So what’s going on here? Well, I personally think he may be off base here. We KNOW that TSMC started producing 3nm wafers of chips in December 2022. We also know that Apple has bought all of it. All the 3nm chips they can make. For a year. They’re not f***ing around here. So are we saying that all those chips are for an iPhone that isn’t releasing until September, and even if it is, only half the iPhone lineup will be using it, as the base phones use last years chips which are made on a different process. Does it not make sense that some of these chips are the M3?
But those developer logs, seeing 15.5” displays running M2. Well I’d say it’s not impossible that Apple would have internal development devices that are using MacBook Air M2 boards to test the displays ahead of full production and assembly. Or maybe Apple has ways of disguising the M3 as it would appear in developer logs to avoid super early leaks?
The question I’d ask is this. Would you buy a 15.5” M2 MacBook Air a year after the smaller version came out with the same design and same chip? Assuming Vadim from Max Tech is right and the update cycle for M chips IS 18 months, you’d be 6 months from your device being last generation even if you buy on release day. Because there’s ZERO chance Apple updates the 13” Air and not the 15” in 6 months. They’d never do that with the 14” and 16” Pro, so why the Air?
Can you imagine the backlash Apple would feel from M2 15” Air owners? It makes zero sense. Mark goes on to say that he expects the new 24” iMac, Mac Pro, 13” Air and for some reason a refreshed 13” MacBook Pro by the end of the year, and he’s said unequivocally that he iMac at least will be updated with M2. And what else would be going into the 13” Air, needless 13” Pro etc if not M3.
I don’t believe for one second that an M2 powered 15” Air will go on sale. I believe they’ve tested the displays with an M2 board, but this makes no sense. Have I lost my mind?
