A2 builds on the workflow from the original Intro to Photoshop Workflow for Photographers, using the new tools in ACR 8,x (PS CS6, CC, CC 2014) to streamline and speed up postprocessing whilst simultaneously improving tonal quality and flexibility. Although the fundamental logic remains the same - convert from RAW to make a flat file, make global then local tonal adjustments in PS, sharpen for output and save - I have further improved and refined the workflow over the last couple of years. It represents the current state of my workflow and has personally reduced my own postprocessing time by about 20% compared to the methodology in the original Intro to Photoshop Workflow, leaving more time to shoot. It is of course back-compatible with both the Monochrome Masterclass and Outstanding Images Ep. 4 & 5: Exploring and Processing for Style.
This video covers workflow in a much more holistic way, and with many new elements:
Color management of cameras (including creating custom profiles) and monitors;
Curation and sorting/ prioritisation
New features in ACR 8.x and how best to use them in practice
How to achieve smooth and natural highlight rolloff with any camera
Use of LAB mode to eliminate the most difficult step of color adjustment before output
Application of the ACR filter to make local adjustments for very large files
Finally, how to get the most out of the Fuji X-Trans/ACR combination.
We wanted it to be as comprehensive as possible, so it turned into our longest video ever - 4h+ in two parts with a huge range of examples. For the first time, there are also approximately two dozen selected raw files (from those covered in the video) for you to experiment with and work though.
