FA-18 Hornet in DCS World: Using JDAMs on a SAM Site
I enjoy flying the FA-18 Hornet it DCS World. In this DCS World #shorts, we are using JDAMs in a SEAD Mission (Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses). The SAM site had not went active to search as I approached in this multiplayer server. This SAM site ambushed me as I returrned from my last mission, so I came back to take it out.
While I did have two HARM missiles, they are not effective unless the SAM radar is actively searching or tracking a target. I elected to attempt a first attack with 500lb JDAMs, rippling off 4 in one pass. As I approached, the SAM site went active and acquired me, firing two or three missiles at me. After defeating the missiles, I reattacked with the HARM missiles and killed the remaining Search & Track radar. In the next mission, I mopped the area up with another load of 500lb JDAMs and the zone was captured shortly after.
