Deborah’s Role as a Judge and Prophetess
Deborah's rise to prominence occurs during a tumultuous period in Israel's history, characterized by cycles of oppression and deliverance. Unlike other judges who were primarily military leaders, Deborah’s role encompassed both judicial and prophetic duties. She held court under a palm tree between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, where Israelites came to her for judgment and guidance (Judges 4:4-5).
