Getting our DOG to Hawaii (Not so easy)

🧡Below is a further detailed step-by-step list of the process we went through to get our dog FROM the Mainland TO Kauai!
🔆1) Making sure our pet had TWO documented Rabies vaccinations, has an active microchip AND lab-work processed at a certified lab (FAVN test- to prove the dog's blood is rabies free) There are only a few accredited places in the country that can do it. This vet trip cost $175.
TIP 👻 Call the vet ahead of time to find out if they are well versed in Hawaii documentation* it makes the process a lot easier ON YOU!
🔆2) Having the right kennel equipment for our dog's size. This cost us $80
🔆3) Reserving the flight FROM the Mainland TO Kauai (The human ticket + the reservation for our pet) We flew through Hawaii Airlines

🔆4) Fill out and submit the AQS application with all the above information with a CASHIER's check of $165 to Animal Quarantine Services AND make an inspection appointment with the correct agency....For us it was the Kauai Humane Society. MUST BE SUBMITTED WITHIN 30 DAYS of the animal boarding their flight.
🔆5) Once application is received, the agency will contact you with approval or denial. Upon APPROVAL, $550 must be issued in order for the NIIP to be released to you.
🔆6) 10 DAYS prior to departure, your pet must be seen again at their Vet's office to obtain a Health certificate AND recieve a ringworm treatment.
TIP 👻 Make sure to leave the appointment WITH documentation of the ringworm treatment given
🔆7) Have all documentation with you when you arrive at the airport. As long as your animal (and airlines) have the 70lb requirement and your animal is traveling as cargo with you, $225 is to be rendered upon rendering the animal as their "ticket". Or whatever fee the airline you choose charges.
NOTE 💚Please contact the airlines to find out what weight requirements/equipment requirements they might have for your furry loved one to fly safely with them :)
🔆We spent a total of $1,271 to get our furry family member, Forest, on island with us and it was worth every penny!
