Simplex vs Duplex Repeaters Understanding the Difference for Radio Communication
So with simplex typically that's going to be radio to radio communication With duplex this is typically going to be used with a repeater And how that repeater is going to work it's going to receive the radio frequency on one channel So for an example 147.156 And then it's going to rebroadcast that signal back out off the repeater onto a different channel And so that different channel could be something like 147.75 as an example There are different types of repeaters that you can get as well So there are simplex repeaters and there are duplex repeaters With a simplex repeater what's going to happen when you your signal the repeater is then going to record that onto the repeater It'll then wait a moment until you stop transmitting and then it'll retransmit that signal Now that signal can be rebroadcast either on the same frequency that it was received on or it can transmit on to a different frequency as well Now how a duplex repeater is going to work it's going to at the same time that it's receiving it's going to be transmitting that message without recording that message at all So when you key up one radio immediately it's rebroadcast as you're saying it live onto a different radio frequency Now with a duplex repeater how that's going to operate is the exact same way I explained duplex a moment ago So if we're transmitting on 147.165 at the exact same time that we're transmitting it's going to rebroadcast that signal So if we were to have a positive offset of 0.6 it'll then rebroadcast that signal at 147.6.5 Now there's going to be two different ways that signals can be transmitted over any kind of a handheld radio
