The Wedding Video That Took 7 Years To Make
It took me seven years to make this video.
Every year I promised Renee I'd finish it. I would work on it only to realize it was a bear of a project. "Next year," I'd say.
I realized that it is extremely difficult to edit your own wedding video. I was so attached to all the clips and struggled to make choices.
I love making films, but I couldn't figure this out. I watched dozens, no hundreds, of wedding highlight films trying to crack the code.
There is no code, at least not one that satisfied me. Wedding highlight videos follow their rules.
This year was likely to be the same and I'm sure I would have put it on the "to do" list for next year. But then we were shocked by the loss of two wonderful people who were at our wedding.
Pete Bardak was my best friend and our officiant. Joe DeJure was a close family friend. They will be missed. Hopefully you can see their smiling faces and feel their loving energy in a few of the scenes.
The loss of these two wonderful people hurts. The community that celebrated with us is smaller but are infinitely more important.
Perhaps it was losing them, or perhaps not. But I vowed to finish the project.
And then I did, finally.
I presented the video to Renee on the morning of December 6th, our anniversary. I think Renee was shocked and thought it was never going to happen.
