Why We Root for the Villain
Since the release of HBO's The Sopranos, we've seen the explosion of successful TV and film anti-heroes and anti-protagonists such as Walter White (Breaking Bad), Hannibal Lecter (Hannibal), Joe Goldberg (You), Marty Byrde (Ozark), Saul Goodman (Breaking Bad), and countless others. In this video, I discuss why we care about these often evil and sociopathic anti-protagonists in the first place and put them on my custom Anti-Protagonist Alignment Chart. This trend is only gaining popularity, with the spinoff of the Sopranos, "The Many Saints of Newark," You Season 3, Hannibal Season 4 (unconfirmed), Better Call Saul Season 6, Ozark Season 4, and many more.
