Longtail/Rice Tadpole Shrimp (Triops longicaudatus)
Some footage of a group of tadpole shrimp (triops) I raised over the summer of 2018. This was filmed just before I moved them from a 5 gal. to a 10 gal. tank, at about 2 weeks after hatching - the murky water in the last segment is indicative of them outgrowing the smaller size tank.
Known by several common names, including longtail and rice tadpole shrimp, T. longicaudatus is the species of tadpole shrimp most commonly-raised in captivity. Outside its natural habitat, it is ironically a pest in rice patty fields, where it eats rice seedlings before they mature.
