Autism ABA Therapy | Improves Communication or ABUSE?
#abatherapy #autismtherapy #stoptheshock My name is Chadd. Father of a 22 year-old son with medium functioning Autism. His name is Chase. At age 22, Chase has a ton of functional language, if he wants something or wants to go somewhere. However, he still requires 24-hour supervision and may for the rest of his life. He currently lives at home primarily with his mom and stepdad. He is unemployed and spends much of his day stimming on electronic devices and watchin infintile videos like Baby Einstein and Zaboomafoo. He was diagnosed with Autism at 18 months and began ABA therapy immediately. He excelled in ABA therapy from ages 2 to 8 in-home and out-of-home private ABA certified therapists - likely some of the best in the Chicagland area in years 2001 thru 2007 including Easter Seals of Chicagoland - an organization and program that is highly regarded. His progress in ABA therapy is well documented. In this video, I tackle both sides of the discussion on ABA Therapy - the good, the bad and the ugly. In my experience, the vast majority of individuals who claim ABA Therapy is abusive are those with higher functioning Autism. The vast majority of parents like me, report positive development in their children directly attributed to ABA Therapy. Perspective of parents who literally witnessed their child's progress from non-verbal to verbal. ABA Therapy is also a spectrum in my experience. What I mean by that is, there are many levels of skill when it comes to choosing the right therapist and or ABA program. There are good ones, GREAT ones and downright aweful fraudulent ones that should be shut down. Thousands around the world living with adult autism knock ABA therapy, yet they find my son Chase amazing without acknowleging what made him amazing. It wasn't just his parents. Trust me. Mom and Dad can only do so much, especially if they're not CABAs. Chadd. 2/23/22
