Helene van Dongen Artist Interview
The artwork in this group exhibit is a direct result of a workshop that Helene gave at Lois Hinman's studio in January 2017. Helene taught us (Lois Hinman, Lucinda Lundin, Carolyn McDaniel, Penny LaPome, Dianne Dilley, Deann Ward, Sandra Davis, Dwight Furnish, Dorothy Seitz, and Kathy Fields) how to make sculptures with thin slabs of clay. She was so excited about the petroglyphs that are so prominent in our area. She thought that it would be a good idea to remake the petroglyphs with our own imagination; not copying the existing ones but to use the images of them and come up with our own visions of them.
