How to write content that ranks on search engines
Following on from the last video on how to do competitor research and create content that Google wants to see on its page one search results you should now have a good idea of what you need on your page.
One thing you should have noted down was roughly what kind of word count you should be aiming for. It’s not essential that you hit your target word count as the content only needs to be as long as it needs to be but having a word count to aim for allows you to work out how many heads you need.
Firstly, you will need to start researching what headings you will need in your article and roughly how many. As a rule of thumb, I always break down the content into sections of 200. For example, if you aim to write 2000 words you would have 10 headings. This breaks your content down into easy to write chunks.
Here are some ways you can find headings to write about that are relevant to your keyword:
• Look at the page one search results and note down your competitor's headings.
• Look at Google ‘People also ask’ section
• Look on SEMrush keyword magic tool and then ‘questions’
• Look on Quora
• Look on Reddit
• Look at books
Once you have your headings and you have finalised which ones you will include you will then want to research each heading in more detail. Research each heading and note down in bullet points what should be covered in each.
Next to make sure your article is as relevant as it possibly can be you need to start creating a list of related keywords to your target keyword.
To do this you will need to:
• Do more keyword research specific just for this one keyword
• Look for related keywords
• Brainstorm
• Search SEMrush or similar tools
• Look in books
• Look at Google suggest
• Look at competitors page rankings on SEMrush
By the end of this research, you should have a document that clearly shows you what count you need to create. This planning should make it sure easy for you to write any number of words. The idea is you’re breaking it up into super small chunks and making sure you’re covering everything you need to.
Throughout this process, you should always be thinking about what your competitors are missing in their content and what you offering that gives you the edge over them.
