Easy stylish slider pivot chart (score meter) in Microsoft Excel
Turn a boring pivot chart with survey results into a stylish slider chart with few easy steps. Under Pivot Table Tools/Analyze tab add two dummy columns as calculated fields to make the chart symmetric (my score ranges from -100 to 100). Move the score column to the end of the pivot table. Remove everything unnecessary from the chart, like the legend and gridlines. Fix the bounds of the horizontal axis and move the labels of the vertical axis to the right. In the Format Data Series pane set series overlap to 100% and adjust the gap width. Apply gradient fill to all three series. The first gradient stop of the score series has to be transparent and the second needs a darker color to be visible well. Check "invert if negative", so that the coloring is reversed for bars of the score series, that represent negative numbers. And apply data labels (optional). I also sorted the pivot table in advance according to the score.
