Ok so I heard this song a while ago and couldn't stop thinking of how well it applies to the dynamic that is L and Light's rivalry. They're both trying desperately to catch up and surpass one another (L to catch Kira; Light to kill L) throughout the show. And although it seemed like Light had surpassed L, turns out L was surpassing Light all along (in the form of Near).
So as per usual, these two end up in a stalemate; but this time they both lose their lives to the chase.
