Magnetic dipole moment of a current loop
A current carrying loop behaves like a magnetic dipole. One face of it behaves like north pole and the other as south pole and these poles are separated by the thickness of the loop. The front side of the loop behaves as a south pole and the back side as a north pole.
If the loop of wire has an area A and carrying current I, then according to Ampere's theorem, the loop behaves like a magnetic dipole of magnetic moment IA.
Where A is the area vector of the loop. The direction of A and hence the direction of magnetic moment is perpendicular to the plane of the loop and upward.
